These
plates are used to measure the flow
of fluids that carry solids and are
also used to measure gas flow rates
that carry condensate. With the eccentric
orifice at the top of the plate it
can be used to measure liquids that
carry gas. The use of an eccentric
bored orifice lengthens the Vena contracta
and can be used in small line sizes
to eliminate the interference between
the vena contracta pressure tap and
the flange. However, an uncalibrated
eccentric bored orifice plate has
±40% more overall error than
an uncalibrated concentric bored orifice
plate. Coefficient data is available
for eccentric bored orifices for both
flange and vena contracta taps.
