These
plates are used to measure the flow
rate of light slurries and extra dirty
gases. The design of a segmental orifice
eliminates the damming of foreign
matter and provides more complete
drainage than the eccentric bored
orifice. The segmental bored orifice
is much more expensive to manufacture
than an eccentric bored orifice and
has a slightly greater overall error.
The segmental bore orifice plate is
also limited to a tap location 180°
from the segmental opening. This may
be undesirable if the liquid contains
both solids and vapors. Coefficient
data is available with flange and
vena contracta taps.
