Type
5 design is used when a protection
pipe is not required. Each thermocouple
can be routed to a location where
a measurement is required. One thermocouple
could be buried in a catalyst bed,
another routed to sense a pipe surface
temperature and another could be inserted
into a pipe through a compression
fitting to sense a flowing liquid
temperature. Replacement is quite
simple but may require the shutdown
of the process.
