Type
3 design has proven to be the most
reliable of all designs with extremely
long life and practically no maintenance.
There are no springs or other devices
that may fatigue and fail. Each guide
tube is welded to a plug, which is
then welded into and becomes an integral
part of the wall of the protecting
tube. When the sheathed thermocouple
is bottomed against the end of the
guide tube (the plug), solid contact
is obtained with the protecting tube,
accurate temperatures are sensed and
fast response is realized. Should
a thermocouple fail, it can be replaced
quickly and safely without shut down
of process and is removable from the
entire thermocouple bundle. Secondary
pressure sealing is obtained in this
design with a plug welded at the end
of the outer protection tube. This
can be eliminated or replaced with
a Pressure Plate type of secondary
Pressure Seal.
