Type
2 design consists of thermocouples
attached to a guide rod or strap.
The thermocouple hot junction is held
against the inside of the protection
pipe by a bimetallic spring. When
cold, the bimetallic spring retracts
the thermocouple from the wall, permitting
easy insertion or removal of the thermocouple
bundle. As the assembly heats up,
the bimetallic spring forces the hot
junction against the wall of the protection
pipe. Positive contact can be assured
as long as the bimetallic spring is
operating properly. The thermocouples
can be replaced by removing the inner
assembly. A Pressure Plate type of
secondary Pressure Seal is shown.
If secondary pressure seals are not
required, this seal can be eliminated
or replaced with a weld-in plug. Replacement
or repair should be done at the factory.
